IELTS Coaching for Nurses — USA Visa Screen Ready
The CGFNS Visa Screen Certificate — mandatory for working as a nurse in the USA — requires IELTS Academic 6.5+. Our nurse-focused IELTS coaching gets you that score alongside your NCLEX preparation, saving months of total preparation time.
Programme duration: 6–10 weeks · Target score: 6.5+ overall, no band below 6.0 · Free demo class at our Suchitra Circle, Hyderabad centre.
Why Indian Nurses Going to USA Must Pass IELTS
Many Indian nurses focus entirely on NCLEX and don't realise that IELTS is a separate, mandatory requirement for working in the USA. Without it, you cannot complete the process — no matter how well you pass NCLEX.
The CGFNS Visa Screen Certificate
The CGFNS Visa Screen Certificate is required by the US Department of State before your employer can complete your work visa application (EB-3 or H-1B). CGFNS will not issue this certificate without an accepted English language score.
CGFNS accepts only: IELTS Academic or TOEFL iBT. We recommend IELTS for most Indian nurses — the test structure is more familiar and the 13-day result turnaround is faster than TOEFL for re-sits.

Not General TrainingIELTS Coaching Programme — Module by Module
Nurse-focused preparation across all four IELTS Academic sub-tests, tailored for healthcare professionals.
Reading — Band 6.5 Strategy
IELTS Academic Reading uses long passages from academic journals, scientific articles and complex reports. For nurses, we source healthcare-related passages wherever possible to keep preparation clinically relevant.
- Skimming and scanning — locate answers without reading every word
- True / False / Not Given — drilled systematically
- Matching headings — paragraph structure recognition
- Time management — 60 minutes for 3 passages
Listening — Note Completion Mastery
IELTS Listening plays once with no pause. Indian nurses often struggle with native-speaker accents and the speed of delivery. We train extensively on the most common patterns.
- Accent exposure — British, American, Australian
- Note completion — write while listening
- Spelling accuracy — wrong spelling = wrong answer
- 30-second question preview — prep time use
Writing — Task 1 & Task 2
IELTS Academic Writing is the sub-test where most nurses underperform. Task 1 (graph/chart description) is completely unfamiliar to clinical nurses. Task 2 (opinion essay) requires academic English structure.
- Task 1 — bar charts, line graphs, pie charts, maps
- Task 2 — 4-paragraph essay structure
- Word count — Task 1: 150+ · Task 2: 250+
- Healthcare vocabulary — health-related essay practice
Speaking — Fluency & Accuracy
IELTS Speaking is a live 11–14 minute interview with an examiner. Indian nurses are often marked down for over-rehearsed answers and limited range of vocabulary. We train for natural, spontaneous speech.
- Part 1 — familiar topics, natural extension
- Part 2 — 2-minute cue card monologue
- Part 3 — abstract discussion, opinion language
- Healthcare topics — dedicated vocabulary prep
NCLEX + IELTS Together — Our Recommended Approach
The biggest mistake Indian nurses make is doing NCLEX and IELTS sequentially — one after the other. This adds 3–4 months to your total preparation timeline and delays your US job application by the same amount.
At Swas CareNest, we integrate IELTS into the NCLEX programme from Week 1. Saturday sessions (2 hours/week) run throughout the 20-week NCLEX course, so you complete both in the same 5-month window.
How the Integration Works
-
Diagnostic test on Day 1
We test your current IELTS level and set a personalised band target. Most nurses need 6.5 for Visa Screen — some state boards require 7.0.
-
Saturday IELTS sessions throughout NCLEX
2 hours every Saturday — rotating through all four modules with weekly mock sections and individual feedback.
-
Full mock test in Week 16
Complete timed IELTS simulation with examiner-style Speaking assessment. Results used to decide exam date.
-
Sit IELTS exam by Week 18
Book your IELTS test in Hyderabad (British Council or IDP). Results in 13 days — submit to CGFNS while NCLEX result is still processing.

IELTS for USA Nursing — FAQs
Why do nurses going to USA need IELTS?
The CGFNS Visa Screen Certificate — mandatory for your US work visa — requires an accepted English language score. CGFNS accepts IELTS Academic (6.5+) or TOEFL iBT. Without this, your US employer cannot complete your visa application regardless of your NCLEX result.
What is the minimum IELTS score for CGFNS Visa Screen?
IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, with no individual band (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) below 6.0. We target 7.0 in our coaching to give you a safety margin.
Is IELTS General Training or Academic needed for nurses going to USA?
IELTS Academic only. IELTS General Training is NOT accepted by CGFNS. Make sure you register for the correct version when booking your test.
Can I prepare for IELTS and NCLEX at the same time?
Yes — and we strongly recommend it. Our 20-week NCLEX programme includes integrated Saturday IELTS sessions so you complete both in the same window. This saves 3–4 months of preparation time.
How much does IELTS cost in Hyderabad in 2026?
IELTS test fee is approximately ₹16,250–₹17,500 depending on British Council or IDP. Computer-based IELTS (faster results) is available at similar cost. Our coaching fee is separate — contact us for current batch rates.
How many times can I attempt IELTS?
There is no limit on IELTS attempts. Results are valid for 2 years. If you don't reach 6.5 on your first attempt, we identify exactly which bands need work and provide targeted re-sit coaching.
